Toronto – Canada Life has been named the title sponsor of the 2022 Vanier Cup.
The 57th edition of the U SPORTS football championship will be hosted by Western University, in London, Ont. on Nov. 26.
“Canada Life and Western are two important London institutions, and we are thrilled they are coming together to celebrate the 2022 Canada Life Vanier Cup,” said Lisette Johnson-Stapley, U SPORTS Chief Sport Officer. “U SPORTS greatly appreciates Canada Life’s support as we bring our national university football championship to London for the first time.”
“For well over a century, Canada Life has called London home. We’re proud neighbours to Western University and big fans of the Mustangs,” said Jeff Macoun, President and Chief Operating Officer, Canada, Canada Life. “We’re delighted to demonstrate our strong commitment to this community and Western by helping to host this milestone event.”
As part of its Vanier Cup support, Canada Life will contribute to the establishment of a student-athlete legacy award that will be given to a student who identifies as Black, Indigenous or racialized.
“Accelerating diversity, equity, and inclusion demands that leaders from across our community invest in diverse talent. We’re thrilled to work alongside our friends at Western to recognize deserving high performing student-athletes who display dedication to academics, athletics, and community.” said Macoun.
This new legacy award builds on a recent $2-million gift from Canada Life and it’s affiliated companies in support of equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives across Western’s faculties and affiliated colleges.
“On behalf of the entire Western community, I would like to express our tremendous gratitude to Canada Life for this very generous gift,” said Alan Shepard, president of Western University. “Your leadership will make a major difference in the lives of our student athletes, while also strengthening Western’s and Canada Life’s ongoing commitment to supporting equity-deserving communities.”
In addition to title sponsorship, Canada Life also sponsors the Road to the Vanier Cup, including the U SPORTS Football Top 10 published every Tuesday and the U SPORTS Football Players of the Week awards announced on Wednesdays.
“We are so pleased that Canada Life has partnered with us to be the title sponsor of the 2022 Vanier Cup,” said Murray Faulkner, honorary chair of the 2022 Canada Life Vanier Cup host committee. “Working together, I know this will be an incredible event for London, and we look forward to hosting fans from all across Canada at the end of November.”
