    Jeffery Concerts - Esmé Quartet

    Praised for their warm sound and powerful stage presence, the Esmé Quartet was formed in 2016 at the Hochschule für Musik in Cologne, Germany by four musicians who had been friends since their youth. They shared common interests and passions in music, the arts, and life. The Esmé Quartet brings together four brilliant and distinct musical personalities to form a cohesive, close-knit group that is passionately dedicated to the string quartet repertoire.     The Miró Quartet is one of America’s most celebrated and dedicated string quartets, having been labeled by The New Yorker as “furiously committed” and noted by the Cleveland plain dealer for its “exceptional tonal focus and interpretive intensity.”

    The Don Wright Faculty of Music at Western University invites everyone to a performance by guitar and vocal duo, Alma, as they explore and perform Spanish music that ranges from Zarzuela to Spanish Art Song. Alma is a classical duo that performs music inspired by Flamenco and Folk Traditions. Amelia Daigle, a Canadian soprano, conceived the project with guitarist Daniel Turner out of her love for opera and folk music. It has since evolved into an into a unique and exciting program that has graced stages in Europe and now, Canada. All are welcome to attend – No RSVP required.     Fridays at 12:30 Concert Series: Duo Concertante

    The Don Wright Faculty of Music at Western University invites you a performance by Duo Concertante. Duo Concertante is a JUNO-winning ensemble (Nancy Dahn, violin and Timothy Steeves, piano) with a discography of 13 award-winning CDs, including their all-Schubert album, named one of CBC’s Top Classical Recordings of 2020. Nancy and Timothy have toured globally, appearing in the Wigmore Hall (UK), Carnegie Hall (NYC), The National Arts Centre, and the Forbidden City Hall in Beijing, amongst many others. We look forward to welcoming them to the stage for a program entitled Romancing the Rock featuring works by Amanda Maier, César Franck and a newly composed piece titled Iridescence by Mexican Canadian composer Luis Ramirez.

    Artists-in-Residence Concert: New Orford String Quartet

    The Don Wright Faculty of Music at Western University invites you to an epic evening of chamber music including Schubert's Death and the Maiden. New Orford String Quartet, consisting of Andrew Wan and Jonathan Crow (violins), Western faculty member Sharon Wei (viola), and Brian Manker (cello) start the evening off with Mozart's unrelentingly dramatic K.421 quartet after which string performance students join in with the New Orford String Quartet for an electric performance of A Letter from the Afterlife by JUNO-winning composer Dinuk Wijeratne. Wijeratne’s work will thematically transition to the final programmed piece of the evening, Schubert's Death and the Maiden String Quartet as he includes recognizable quotes from Schubert’s chamber piece.

    The Don Wright Faculty of Music at Western University invites you Halloween-themed evening of symphonic repertoire. Western University Symphony Orchestra presents a concert of bewitching, mysteriously captivating repertoire with two special Halloween-themed concerts. Performers will swap out concert attire for Halloween costumes – join us if you dare! Note: The same program and Halloween theme will be performed at a repeat matinée performance on Saturday, November 2.

    The Lord of the Rings & The Hobbit in Concert

    The Lord of the Rings & The Hobbits are coming! In a magnificent concert with a film music orchestra, choir, and star guests, the dark voice of “Saruman” actor Sir Christopher Lee introduces you to the musical world of J.R.R. Tolkien: From the threatening sounds of Mordor and the shrill attacks of the Black Riders to the beautiful lyrical melodies of the elves! A special guest from the original film cast presents “The music of The Lord of the Rings & The Hobbit – The Concert”!

    Jeffery Concerts - Paul Merritt, Organ and Friends

    The Jeffery Concerts - Excited to showcase four exceptional London musicians: Paul Merritt (organ) will be joined by Jennifer Short (oboe), Katerina Juraskova (cello), Richard Frank, (soprano & alto saxophones). They will perform an eclectic mix of music drawn from the Baroque era to the modern day, all involving the organ. The repertoire will include works by J.S. Bach, J.L. Krebs, G. Homilius, Mendelssohn, Josef Rheinberger, William Mathias, Paul Halley, and Denis Bédard.

    Jeffery Concerts - Kevin Chen, piano

    At the age of five, this Canadian prodigy began his piano studies; by age eight Kevin Chen had been named one of CBC’s Top 30 Hot Canadian Classical Musicians under 30 and became the youngest person to earn The Royal Conservatory of Music’s Associate Diploma.  Subsequent awards include: youngest-ever winner of the Franz Liszt International Piano Competition; first prize at the Concours de Genève; and first prize in the Arthur Rubinstein Piano Master Competition. As well as being an exceptional musician, Chen is an accomplished composer and has over 100 works to his name. F. Chopin: Ballade No. 4 in F minor, Op. 52 F.     Jeffery Concerts - Chicago Brass Quintet - Music of the Americas

    Technical brilliance plus showmanship makes the international award-winning Chicago Brass Quintet one of the world’s preeminent brass quintets. Versatility best describes this brass ensemble as they delight audiences with an oeuvre full of both classic staples and contemporary compositions. Showy without ever showing off, the Quintet celebrates the poetry of song via musical experiences that are rich in emotion, reflection, and melody.     The Don Wright Faculty of Music at Western University invites you to experience South Korean cellist Hocheol Shin and faculty member Kyung Kim as they take to the stage with Music of the Americas featuring works that personify the diverse cultural mosaic and heritage of the Americas. Works include Le Grand Tango by Astor Piazzolla, Métis composer and Western grad T. Patrick Carrabré’s Red River, sonata for cello and piano, and Samuel Barber’s epic Sonata for cello and piano.     Guest Artists Concert: cello and fiddle duo HAAS

    Join at the Don Wright Faculty of Music, Western University for HAAS, a string duo composed of sisters Natalie (cello) and Brittany (fiddle). The began their musical lives filling their childhood home with Bach suites and old-time tunes alike. It was on their own, however-following divergent paths through disparate musical traditions, countries, and cultures-that they both arrived as virtuosi and composers at the highest levels of contemporary string music. They welcome you to join for a musical journey encompassing travels through time with representation from Nashville to Norway, the Celtic Isles to California.
