    Valdy, a celebrated Canadian singer-songwriter, is best known for his poignant hit Play Me a Rock and Roll Song, inspired by a memorable encounter with a lively audience at the Aldergrove Rock Festival in 1968. Over his illustrious career, he has sold nearly half a million albums, earned two Juno Awards (Folk Singer of the Year and Folk Entertainer of the Year), received seven Juno nominations, and achieved four Gold albums. His recent releases include Contenders, a collaborative album with Gary Fjellgaard, and Viva Valdy: Live at Last, a two-CD collection of live and studio tracks featuring 25 songs and a lyric booklet. Valdy’s songwriting has had a lasting impact, with his composition A Good Song recorded by Quincy Jones and Play Me a Rock and Roll Song covered by artists like John Kay of Steppenwolf. He has performed in over a dozen countries, including Denmark and Australia, and has been a regular at Texas’s prestigious Kerrville Festival. Valdy’s television appearances include Canada AM, Open Mike with Mike Bullard, and a lead role in an episode of The Beachcombers. His contributions to music and storytelling have firmly established him as one of Canada’s most influential folk artists.
