Two doctors share their journeys of displacement, imprisonment, hope, and home between Canada and Japan during the Second World War.
Landscapes of Home explores the lives of two doctors navigating their identities between Canada and Japan during the Second World War. Dr. Stuart Cooper Robinson and Henry Ryusuke Shibata share their stories of displacement, internment, and atomic destruction. Stuart, portrayed by Michael Kramer, spent his childhood in Japan but faced upheaval when war broke out, forcing his family to return to Canada. Henry, a Japanese Canadian, endured the harsh realities of internment camps as prejudice toward Japanese Canadians grew. After the war, he left Canada for Hiroshima, where he witnessed the devastating effects of atomic warfare.
