The world has been devastated by climate disaster and due to government-imposed measures, a civil war has broken out. Civilians are forced into hiding as the United Conservancy, an anti-government militia, occupies half the country and continues forward. Nia (Jasmine Matthews) and her sister Penny (Vinessa Antoine) are among these civilians and are in hiding with a group of family, friends, and neighbours. That is until the United Conservancy discovers their safe haven. The group must make the decision to either surrender or risk the journey to find refuge with the rumoured resistance movement. But for Nia, stakes are especially high as she just discovered she’s pregnant and will do anything to protect her baby.
The journey Nia, Penny and their group of survivors go through is shockingly realistic, set inside a world that has the potential to be our tomorrow. It is a striking look ahead to the effects of climate change, and how it can mutate our societies into a beast not completely unfamiliar to our current world. Director Mackenzie Donaldson shows us what it would be like to go from laughter and peace to terror and survival in this thrilling alternate reality film with a deep social political message at its core.
